Vice Chair and General Counsel for the Nicholas & Dorothy Cummings Foundation

The son of Nicholas and Dorothy Cummings, Mr. Cummings is the Senior Vice President and the Associate General Counsel of Magellan Health, with his office located in the financial district of Manhattan (New York City). He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business and computer sciences from California State University at Sacramento,and earned his law degree from McGeorge College of Law of the University of the Pacific where he had the distinction of both law journal and the Order of the Coif. After practicing in a private law firm for three years, he went to Boston University where he obtained his LLM degree in tax law.

He became general counsel for American Biodyne shortly after its inception, and he remained with that company through a series of mergers and iterations until it became Magellan Health Corporation. Now part of top management, he demonstrates a rare acumen in both health law and business.

Coming into managed behavioral care during its infancy, he has been an instrumental part of developing law pertaining to healthcare, and especially behavioral healthcare, as it has evolved over the past decades. He serves as Vice Chair and General Counsel for both of the Cummings Foundations. Now widowed, he continues to reside in Greenwich, Connecticut.
